Who can use the Writing Center?
Writing Center services are intended for UAMS students. If you are a former student or present staff or faculty member of UAMS, please consult with us before submitting work to us. We might be able to provide feedback for your project. We also might be able to point you toward a more useful resource.
What can I expect when I send you my work?
Technically, we do not edit or proofread documents. We do provide comments and suggestions on format, style, and writing patterns.
We prefer you to send us your draft as an MSWord document. For Word documents, we provide feedback in the form of comments in the document margins. For other types of documents or projects, we will work with you as needed.
How soon do I need to submit my paper before the due date?
There is not a strict rule on when you have to send us your draft. Turnaround time depends on the length of the paper and the number of papers ahead of yours in our queue. We prefer you to give us 4 or 5 working days, that way we have time to comment and you have time to read our comments and redraft before submitting the paper.
Running late? You can still send us your draft. At worst, we might reply that we don’t have time to comment on the work. However, even without much time for review, we will try to provide comments on part of the essay.
Can I come to see you in person?
Absolutely. We schedule hour-long appointments; however, there is no limit to the number of appointments you can schedule over any given week or semester. Appointments are most productive when you send us a draft of your project ahead of time.
Can you help me format my paper (i.e. Microsoft Word)?
We will try to help, but we are not experts in word processing or other Microsoft office products.
